Oyo Govt Collaborates NILDS To Organize Quiz Competition For Public Schools
Oyo state government has collaborated with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies to organize a Quiz Competition for secondary school students in Oyo State to educate them on legislative processes.
Speaking at the Quiz Competition programme held at the Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, said that the quiz competition was aimed at teaching and sensitizing the students on the legislative tenets and democratic ethos.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Secondary Education, Mrs. Gladys Nton said the quiz is a platform to introduce students, who are future leaders, to the fundamentals of legislative processes and procedures for democratic governance.
He commended the organizers of the programme, adding that the programme will really assist the students in the state.
He explained that the quiz competition will expose participants to the understanding of the history role and function of the Nigerian legislature.
In his remarks, the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, said that the quiz competition was an initiative of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.
The DG who spoke through Prof. Shola Omotola, explained that the competition will provide continued education on the legislature and broaden the knowledge of students in civic and democratic governance.
He commended the Oyo state government and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, for their support towards the success of the programme.
Earlier, the state representative of the programme, Mr Tayo Stephen, explained that this year’s edition marks the 9th edition of the competition that was meant to intimate the students about the rudiments of the legislature to prepare them for the leadership position.
He said the school that emerged winner today will now move to the zonal level in which they will compete with other states in Southwest, adding that any state that emerges winner will now go for the final on 31st Ocrober, 2024 at Abuja.
He admonished the school that emerged the winner to redouble their efforts in preparing for the next stage of the programme.
At the end of the Competition, Abadina College Senior, (UI), came first; Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, emerged second position, while Olivet Height School, Oyo became third. Abadina College Senior,UI, will now represent the state at the zonal level.
