Oyo Govt Partners with Agro-allied Industry for Digital Soil Testing

…As Registration and Training for Farmers Begins

Oyo State Government has charged extension agents and farmers to cooperate and actively participate in the registration process of digital soil testing for better yield and increase food production in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, gave the charge while flagging off digital soil testing ceremony at Ipapo/Iseyin farm settlement, Òtìrì, Iseyin local government area.

Barrister Olaleye said the digital soil testing that will take place in 100 communities in agrarian Local Government Areas, in collaboration with an Agro-allied industry, is to enhance crop yields, improve farm profitability and safe-guard long term viability of agricultural lands.

He further said training and registration of farmers, will enable Oyo state government to gather valuable data on soil health status, identify potential challenges, and tailor interventions to address specific needs.

Earlier in her welcome address, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Christiana Abioye, enjoined farmers to compliment efforts of Government which gear towards ensuring that needed resources, knowledge, and support get across to farmers.

Also speaking, representative of the Agro-allied company, Mr. Ovie Alaboru, while assuring that the programme would improve crop productivity, sought for maximum corporation of farmers in their respective communities.

Speaking on behalf of participants, Chairman, All Farmer Association of Nigeria, AFAN, Oyo State Chapter, Mr. Adewumi Abass, said the timely effort of government to make informed decisions about crop selection, fertilizer application, and land management practices.
