The Oyo State Government has appealed to residents to utilize the services of refuse contractors to keep their environment clean and prevent the spread of cholera.
This was stated by Hon. Tallest Innocent, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Community Relations, while engaging with market men and women of South Eastern Nigerian descent living in Oyo State.
Addressing newsmen, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Community Relation, Hon. Innocent called on the South-Eastern indigenes to adhere to state rules to avoid facing the wrath of the law.
He urged them to cooperate with the government to clean their market stalls and environment to prevent cholera outbreaks in the state.
Hon. Innocent commended Governor Seyi Makinde for promoting peaceful coexistence among indigenes and non-indigenes and providing an enabling environment for businesses to thrive without hindrances.
He noted that the state government has provided adequate facilities for waste management, and it is the responsibility of residents to utilize.
The Senior Special Assistant also encouraged market men and women to take ownership of their environment and report any cases of refuse dumping or environmental pollution.
Hon. Innocent stressed that the government is committed to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all residents and will not hesitate to take action against those who flout environmental laws.
He appealed to the South-Eastern indigenes to work together with the state government to achieve a common goal of a clean and peaceful environment
In her remarks, the Director of Environmental Officials in the state, representing the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, warned recalcitrant individuals to clean their market stalls, evacuate roadside trading, and avoid noise pollution.
She stated that anyone who disobeys the state’s environmental laws will face the full wrath of the law as stipulated
The Director warned that the state government will not tolerate any form of environmental pollution, including noise planning and roadside trading.
She emphasized that the state government is committed to enforcing environmental laws, and anyone found wanting will face the consequences.
The sensitization program was attended by the leaders of market men and women of South Eastern Nigerian descent living in Oyo State.
They were encouraged to ask questions and seek clarification on any issues related to environmental laws and regulations.
