Conference Chairman, Ogundoyin Co-Chairs Launch of National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security, Pledges to Galvanise State Assemblies Support

In a bold move to address the pressing issues of malnutrition and food insecurity, the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has mobilized state legislators to take action.

Speaking as the co-chairman at the inauguration of the National Legislative Network on Nutrition & Food Security and workshop for Chairmen of newly created State Houses of Assembly Committees on Nutrition & Food Security, Ogundoyin emphasized the need for collective action to tackle these challenges.

Ogundoyin, who is also the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, praised the efforts of the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security and commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas for creating the committee.

“As we inaugurate the National Legislative Network on Nutrition & Food Security, we reaffirm our commitment to working collectively towards a common goal – the eradication of malnutrition and the promotion of food security across our great nation.

“I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman of the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security for his tireless and proactive efforts in driving the committee in the right direction. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the committee’s vision and goals, and I commend him for his dedication and commitment to this important cause

“I also extend my gratitude to the Speaker of the House of Representatives for creating the Committee on Nutrition and Food Security and appointing a visionary leader as its Chairman. This demonstrates the Speaker’s commitment to addressing the critical issues of malnutrition and food insecurity in our nation.”

He pledged the support of state legislators to the National Legislative Network on Nutrition & Food Security, committing to galvanize his colleagues to remove legislative obstacles that perpetuate malnutrition and food insecurity.

The Conference Chairman called on all members of the Network to leverage their collective expertise, resources, and influence to drive positive change, collaborate with stakeholders, engage with experts, and champion evidence-based solutions.

“As Chairman of the Conference of Speakers, I pledge my unwavering support to this Network and its Work Plan. I am fully committed to galvanizing my esteemed colleagues across the country to join hands in removing legislative obstacles that perpetuate malnutrition and food insecurity. I am proud to see the collaboration between the National Assembly and the 36 State Houses of Assembly. This network will facilitate a unified approach to monitoring and implementing projects in nutrition and food security, ensuring that we meet our set objectives.

“We recognize that legislative action is crucial in driving the necessary reforms and policies to address these pressing issues. By working together, we can enact laws and implement measures that empower our people, protect vulnerable populations, and ensure access to nutritious food for all.”

According to him, with this united effort, state legislators aim to make a significant impact in the fight against malnutrition and food insecurity, securing a healthier and more prosperous Nigeria for generations to come.

Highlight of the ceremony was the Investiture of the Speaker, Federal House of Representatives, Rt Hon Tajudeen Abbas, PhD as the Patron of the National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security.

The Conference of Speakers Chairman, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin presented the plaque to the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu who represented Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass at the ceremony.

The event, held at the National Assembly brought together leaders from various State Houses of Assembly, fostering unity and synergy in the fight against malnutrition and food insecurity.
