PDP Names Makinde and Wike to Lead Ondo and Edo Governorship Campaigns
According to Time premium News, The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has selected two governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, as the heads of the campaign councils for the upcoming governorship elections in Ondo and Edo states.
In a statement released by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the party also named Senator Ademola Adeleke and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State as the deputy heads of the campaign councils for Ondo and Edo states respectively.
The decision was made following consultations with stakeholders and members of the party in both states, with the aim of ensuring a successful and united front for the PDP in the upcoming elections.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who is also the chairman of the PDP national campaign council for the Edo State election, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the party’s campaign efforts.
“I am honored to have been chosen as the head of the PDP campaign council for Edo State. This is a great responsibility and I assure the party and its members that I will do my best to ensure victory for our candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki,” Makinde said.
On the other hand, Governor Nyesom Wike, who is the chairman of the party’s national campaign council for the Ondo State election, urged party members to remain united and focused on the goal of winning the election.
“We have a strong candidate in Eyitayo Jegede and I have full confidence in the abilities of Senator Ademola Adeleke and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to lead our campaign efforts in Ondo State. We must all work together and put in our best to ensure victory for the PDP,” Wike said.
The PDP has high hopes for both states, with the party aiming to reclaim the governorship seats from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The Ondo State election is scheduled for October 10, 2020, while the Edo State election will hold on September 19, 2020.
As the campaign period kicks off, all eyes will be on the PDP and its appointed heads of campaign councils to see how they will strategize and mobilize support for their candidates in both states.
