Oyo State today joined the global community in commemorating World Menstrual Hygiene Day with a day out with girls of the state.

The event, organized by the wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan, aimed at raising awareness and promoting menstrual health and hygiene among young girls.

In her remark, Mrs. Makinde (represented by Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, Head of Service) charged stakeholders to provide safe and private sanitation facilities in schools, workplaces, and public places for child girls to overcome stigmatization and menstrual hygiene management.

“Let us provide safe and private sanitation facilities in schools, workplaces, and public places for our child girls to overcome stigmatization and menstrual hygiene management.”

Contributing, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene in preventing health complications and promoting gender equality.

While Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Saliu Adelabu, emphasized the need to integrate menstrual health education into school curricula and establish community-based menstrual health clinics.

The event, which featured free menstrual hygiene kits, was attended by hundreds of students from across the state, as well as experts and advocates who highlighted the need for policy changes, social support, and economic empowerment.
