Excitement as Ex-Commissioner, Afonja commissions three motorized boreholes in Ogbomoso North
A prominent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain, Prof. AbdulRahman Afonja, has taken proactive steps to address water challenges in Isale Afon, a community within Ogbomoso North Local Government, by commissioning three motorised boreholes.
Prof. Afonja’s initiative to reconstruct and renovate the boreholes in Isale Afon highlights a collaborative effort towards addressing essential infrastructure challenges and improving the quality of life for residents.
The ceremony which had in attendance several community leaders in Ogbomoso North local government including members of APC and PDP, underscores a shared commitment to serving the interests of the community above partisan lines.
During the commissioning on Sunday, Prof. Afonja reiterated the importance of ensuring that communities benefit from democratic dividends, including access to essential utilities such as water.
He emphasized the need for proactive measures to alleviate the suffering of residents and provide sustainable solutions to infrastructure challenges.
“Our people must benefit from democracy. One of the minimum and God-given entitlements is that people should have access to is essential utilities such as water and food. This is why I made it my business to ensure our community has access to water by giving them access. They are pleased that the three boreholes were available to reduce their suffering,” stated Prof. Afonja.
The motorised boreholes, equipped with modern technology for efficient water supply, are expected to alleviate water scarcity issues and provide a sustainable solution to the long-standing challenges faced by residents in accessing clean water.
Isale Afon residents expressed gratitude to Prof. AbdulRahman Afonja for his proactive intervention and swift response to their concerns.
They lauded the commissioning of the boreholes as a significant step towards enhancing their quality of life and ensuring a healthier environment for all.
Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Emmanuel popoola aka Chief Bonanza, applauded prof. Afonja for the construction of the new borehole at Ojude Alubata in Isale Afon area, stating that they have long been praying to God to help in solving the water problem in that axis.
According to him, when Prof. Afonja team first came to inspect the site we thought it was a joke but few days after the work began and today the water is running, Prof. Afonja is a blessing to us in Ogbomosho especially in Isale Afon.
“Even when he’s not holding any political office, he’s still giving back to the community. I must sincerely commend his proactive approach to addressing community needs.
Imam Garba, in his own remarks, thanked prof. Afonja on behalf of people around Ojude Abogunde for deeming it fit to repair and replace the facilities of the borehole in that axis while also advising other political leaders to emulate the kind heart of Prof. Afonja.
He said the former Commissioner for Works and Transport has been doing a lot in Isale Afon and Ogbomosho as a whole. He equally used the medium to appreciate him for the palliative he had distributed so far.
On his part, Mr Odebunmi Solomon, who commended Prof. Afonja for the repair and putting the borehole at Ogbaga axis into functional, said he had long been calling on people to make the borehole functional long ago.
In his words, “I am always sad whenever I saw how the borehole was dilapidating, but God has used prof Afonja to turn many people sorrow to happiness with this gesture.”
The commissioning of three motorised boreholes in Ward 4, Isale Afon, Ogbomoso, by Prof. Abdulrahman Raphael Afonja, witnessed a display of cross-party unity as leaders from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) graced the commissioning.
Among the notable dignitaries present were Former LCDA Chairman of Ogbomosho North, Hon. Ademola Makinde Olawale (APC), Chairman-elect Hon. George Ogunlade, LCDA Chairman of Ogbomosho North, Hon. Kadijat Aremu, Engr. Dayo Fagbemi, Former Secretary of Ogbomosho South LGA, Councilor Elect of Isale Afon, Ward 4, Hon. Muritala Olayiwola, Isale Afon Ward 4 Executive members, and community leaders.
