Ibadan Explosion: Chiefs, Mogajis, Baales, CCII cautioned govt over license to miners, owners of fuel, gas stations

The Ibadan Compounds Peace Initiatives, Ibadan Mogajis, Central Council of Ibadan Indigiens (CCII) on Wednesday commissirated with victims of Tuesdays explosion that rocked Aderinola Street, off Adeyi close, Bodija, Ibadan.

The Chiefs and other Ibadan prominent sons and daughters of Ibadanland also commissirated with Oyo State government and the Olubadan of Ibadanland over the unfortunate incident.

Recall that many people were injured and houses destroyed as explosion rocked Rev. Aderinola street, off Adeyi Street, Old Bodija estate, Ibadan, on Tuesday night.

The explosion, which occurred around 7pm affected many buildings, some were said to have died, while many were still under the rubbles.

A statement by the President of Ibadan Mogajis, Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori and coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade urged government to critically looked at the way government agencies grant license to miners, owners of petrol station and gas stations.

They kicked against the way government is granting license to the unauthorized liquified gas stations, petrol stations, and miners accross the state, describing it as a time bomb waiting to explode.

According to them, “virtually all minor spaces within Ibadan, all the core parts of the City (Agbooles) has been turned to Liquefied Gas Stations, some of them so close to road side cooking using nake flame.”

“Most of the owners the miners, gas stations, and petrol stations are non-indigiens who don’t care about the well being of the people around the area.”

They however urged government to checkmate processes of granting license to the miners, owners of gas stations and petrol stations in the state so as to forestall future occurrence.
