NIHORT trains 58 farmers on vegetable value chain in Badagry
Ibadan,Dec. 17,2023 (NAN) No fewer than 58 farmers were trained by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) on vegetable value chain in Badagry, Lagos State.
The Institute Assistant Chief Planning Officer (ACPO) Mr Adeniyi Atiba made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Ibadan.
Atiba said that the 58 farmers, who attended the two-Day training were selected from major farm groups in Badagry and made up of 25 males and 33 females.
He said that the aims and objectives of the training was to build farmers’ capacity, empowered and enhance their income generation from vegetable production while putting in place good agronomy practices.
Atiba said that the participating farmers were trained on great vegetable production and value addition practices.
” The NIHORT Executive Director, Mr Muhammed Attanda, who was representated by Dr Henry Akintoye, explain how NIHORT was building the nation through real time research and innovation all aimed at helping farmers.
“The convener of the workshop, Dr Olutola Oyedele gave an overview of the workshop laying down what the participants should expect,” Atiba said.
According to him, the training covers agronomic techniques for vegetable production of Basil, Telfairia, Ocinum, Corchorus, pest and disease management, value addition of vegetables, eonomics of production, practical aspect among others.
Atiba said that the participants at the training commended NIHORT for the initiative and promised to utilize all the knowledge gain from the training. (NAN)
