Intl Day of Peace: Oyo govt, Peace Corpsurge Nigerians to always pursue peace

The National Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Dr. Dickon A.O. Akoh,has called on Nigerians to work towards safeguarding the human rights of the people with a view to building peaceful and inclusive societies without recourse to ethnic or religious sentiments.

Dr. Akoh made the call in commemoration of the 2023 United Nations International Day of Peace.

The National Commandant’s message was delivered by the Oyo State Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN),Ambassador (Patriot) Lukman Adelowo Yekini at the Oyo State Government Secretariat Complex, Ibadan.

Ambassador Yekini, who led numerous officers of the Command in a road walk across many streets of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, emphasized the need for all to embrace peace.

Places visited include Agodi Gate, Yemetu, Oyo State Secretariat Complex, NTA Ibadan Network station and a host of others.

The Peace Corps Chief said everyone must make peace passion and a priority.

The state Commandant also led his officers and men to pay a courtesy visit to the state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adegoke.

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ajoke Oladipo, received the officers on behalf of the commissioner.

Mrs. Oladipo pointed our that peace is key and all, especially, the youths must pursue peace at all times.

She added that Governor Seyi Makinde would continue to include youths in his administration.

The officers also visited the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, where they were received enthusiastically by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olaleye Ajagbe.

Realizing the importance of the Ministry of Education to the pivot of the Peace Corps, the Commandant, together with his officers, paid a visit to the Commissioner.

One of the senior officials of the ministry gave a rousing welcome to the PCN officers.

This year’s International Day of Peace has the theme: “Actions for Peace”.
