COAS Calls For Synergy Between Media, Military-Media to End Security Challenges

The Chief of Army Staff, lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has sought for the collaboration of Media practitioners in combating the myriad of security challenges confronting the country.

The Chief of Army Staff who is ably represented by the General Officer Commanding 2 division Nigeria Army, Major General, Bamidele Alabi stated this during the Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat third quarter 2023, held at Tigers Officers Mess, Agodi, Ibadan.

Lagbaja bemoaned the rise of the new media which have blurred the line between professional media practioners and amateurs who practice the trade without ethics or responsibility which has changed the dynamics in media practise to keep the society informed and place an added burden to separate genuine news from fake news.

He further said that the country require a healthy Military-Media relationship to create a positive perception that would sustain popular support to the Army’s counter terrorism operations and other operations being conducted to secure the country and protect innocent citizens.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Nosa Ugbo noted that the Chat is part of activities to keep the citizens informed, dispel rumours through provision of accurate and timely information, as an important segment of nation building.

In his speech, the guest speaker, Major General Bamidele Omozoje rtd, advised the country to introduce security-education in the national curriculum to guide how one’s act in protecting the interest of the nation.
