Oyo First Lady charges nursing mothers on proper breastfeeding of babies
Wife of the Oyo state governor Engineer Tamunominini Makinde has charged all nursing mothers in the state to feed their babies with breastmilk to provide them needed energy and nutrients which will help protect the babies against common illnesses and diseases.
The state’s First Lady gave the charge during 2023 World Breastfeeding Week, which is always celebrated every August with the theme: “Enabling Breastfeeding: Making a Difference for Working “Parents”.
Mrs Makinde who described the breastmilk as the best food for baby, noted that it is clean, safe and contains anti-bodies which will help babies health.
She, however, solicited the support of fathers in helping the nursing mothers.
Earlier in her lecture, Chairman, Oyo state Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria, Dr. Omolara Alarape urged all mothers to ensure they consult their nearest Primary health care centre during their early stage in pregnancy for proper care and medical check-ups.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of health, Dr. Deji Adeyanju said that the essence of breastfeeding of babies cannot be overemphasized, noting that it is the first inheritance a child can get from the mother.
Highlight of Event, The all the Nursing mother were given foodstuff and cash gift and they were advised to ensure to give their babies nutritional food to their babies for the baby to leave a healthy life.
