NAFDAC Cautions Nigerians On Side Effects of Consumption of Expired Food Items
Nigerians have been cautioned to be mindful and embrace expiration framework of food and fruit products they bought for consumption
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) made the call while training Journalists on Dangers of Drug Hawking and Ripening of Fruits with Carbide, held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
In her opening remark, Director General, NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Director, Chemical Evaluation and Research, NAFDAC, Dr. Partick Omokpariola said the training was to enlightened Nigerians side effects of calcium carbide.
Prof Mojisola, stressed that alternative ripening of fruits should be adopted which include using apple ripening banana in an airtight container as to help to maintain nutrients and naturalness of the fruits.
Delivering lecture on “the Menace of Drug Hawking”, Director of Pharmacy, NAFDAC, Dr. Francis Ononiwu, noted that patronage of street drug vendors should be discouraged.
Dr. Francis, therefore urged Nigerians to be mindful of expiration of food and fruit products, adding that it will enables safety and guarantee a better performing healthy nation.
Participants from the Southwest states, applauded NAFDAC for its continued improvement and harmonization with the media in the country.
It would be recalled that NAFDAC recently organised similar sensitization workshops in eight cities across the country to raise awareness on the dangers of using bleaching creams.
