Oyo CP calls for proper profiling of commercial motorcyclists to ensure safety, security

Commissioner of Police, Oyo state command, CP Adebowale Williams has directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPO)s to commence proper profiling for commercial motor bike operators in their areas as part of efforts to ensure public safety and security in the state.

The Commissioner of Police who made this known during an interactive meeting with members of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) at the Ibadan house, Oke Aremo Ibadan noted that unnecessary misunderstanding and rivalry between motorcycle riders and the police needed to be nipped in the bud.

CP Adebowale explained that part of the objectives of the meeting was to strengthen mutual relationship and cooperation between the police and commercial motorcycle operators popularly called “Okada” and create a platform for trust that would assist in fishing out unscrupulous elements amongst them.

In his reaction the chairman of Oyo state ACOMORAN, Mr. Solomon Olugbode expressed assurance that they were ready to work with the police and Oyo state government for public safety while arguing that most motorcycle riders posing security threat might actually not members of their association.

Highlight of the meeting was a question and answer session between the police command hierarchy and members of the commercial motorcycle operators to create an atmosphere that the police is their friends.
