Don’t divide Oyo with religion, Oyo residents warns Sanni

Some residents of Oyo State on Monday condemned activities of the chairman, Oyo State Muslim Community, Alhaji Kunle Sanni for allegedly endorsing a particular governorship candidate, saying such statement was not a welcome development for the coexistence of residence and indigenes of the state.

They said Sanni’s condemnation become necessary been part of their contributions to safeguard the unity, peace and development of the state.

Some of the residents, who spoke with our correspondent expresses disappointed that such statement can come out of the mouth of the chairman of an umbrella body for Muslim Umar in the state.

Adekunle Omojola, a resident of Bodija noted that though Sanni have right to endorse any candidate of his choice, but not at the detriment of peace and tranquility currently enjoy in the state.

Another residents, Kayode Ajala maintained that Sanni shouldn’t have come out and endoresed a candidate publicly, adding that whatever support he is giving to a candidate would have been done behind the scene.

Ajala said, “Our people, particularly politicians should separate religion from politics, it is dangerous to mix the two together if we want the progress of this state.”

“Seyi Makinde may not be a saints, but when we compare him with other leading governorship candidates in the state, we think he is a little bit better than other contestants.”

A resident of Apete, Toyin Opatola urged people of the state to vote according their conscience, saying religion should not be use as a yardsticks in electing the governor of the state come this Saturday.
