Oyo PDP chieftain, Tanwa Adekunle loses millions as fire guts auto shops in Ibadan
Fire has consumed an auto shop of a PDP chieftain in Oyo state, Chief Tanwa Adekunle destroying about 9 vehicles including a motorcycle and a big generator which were burnt in the early hour of Sunday.
The TFA building, located within junction of Urban Day Grammar school, old Ife road, Ibadan, housed about 25 unit of vehicles for sales, which were in between a furniture shop where the fire got erupted and got other shops razed.
The fire which consumed Chief Tanwa shop broke out around exactly 3:10am and burnt a Toyota Dyna truck 2010 model as well as 4 other vehicles while some were destroyed estimated at N19m.
An eyewitness and sympathizer at the scene during an on-spot inspection of the building, linked the incident to the carelessness of the Furniture man who left his electric appliances on till PHCN restored light back with a very high voltage.
The eyewitness simply identified as Raheem Rafiu said the fire started about 3:10am when the security guard had already arrived.
He said some other properties could have also got burnt if not for the urgent intervention by men of state fire service who came with two tankers.
While speaking with newsmen on Sunday, Chief Tanwa who had travelled back from Iseyin where he was running a Walk-show campaign for Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election, expressed gratitude to the governor for the measure of state operational fire service he put in place which prevented other cars from being burnt.
According to him, if not for the sudden intervention, the damages would have been more than N19m.
He expressed his deep gratitude to those who came to his aide as well as those who have been sympathizing with him through calls and text messages.
He specifically appreciates the Oyo State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sonda who is the chairman of Egbeda Local Government; Egbeda House of Assembly Member, Sukanmi Babalola and Hon. Ayo Olopoenia, Chairman, Adult and Non former education in oyo state who arrived at the scene as early as 6am to commiserate with him.
