Team Oyo Emerge Second With 60 Medals At Maiden Para Games In Abuja

Team Oyo took the second position with 60 Medals in the first Para Games tagged ‘Abuja 2022’ organised by Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The 60 medals won by Team Oyo in the six day competition, keenly contested by twenty one (21) states of the Federation, included 33 Gold, 15 Silver and 21 Bronze medals.

The visibly elated Chairman of the Oyo State Sport Council, Honourable Gbenga Adewusi “Arole” consequently showered encomiums on Team Oyo for doing the state proud by emerging second on the final medals table, endorsed by the Games Coordinator, Peter Nelson at the end of the Competition on Friday 15th April 2022.

Honourable Adewusi commended all the athletes who represented the state at the competition for their outstanding and excellent performance in the maiden edition of the Para Games, adding that the state Government is very proud of their achievements.

The Chairman also appreciated the efforts of the Oyo State Government under the leadership of the Governor Seyi Makinde for the funding the athletes and supporting them in the provision of logistics that facilitated the participation of Team Oyo in the First edition of the Para games.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Sport Council, Mr Gboyega Makinde led Toyosi Osawe, a para power lifter and other 120 athletes and officials of Team Oyo to receive their second position prize, which is a trophy, at the closing ceremony of the competition.

Team Oyo State participated in eight games, which are Para Athletics, deaf sports, Canoeing, Para swimming, para table tennis, Karate, para power lifting and wheel chair tennis.
