Osun 2022: Lasun Yusuf Joins Labour Party, Picks Governorship Ticket
From Ogundele Olanrewaju
Former Deputy Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, has been announced as the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the July 16 gubernatorial election in Osun State after defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
The chairman of the party in the state, Prince Bello Adebayo declared Yusuf as the party standard-bearer on Thursday at the 2022 Osun governorship party primary election held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) main hall, Osogbo.
Speaking at the event, Yusuf appreciated the leadership of the party for the opportunity given to him to be the party’s candidate and promised to make the party more virile before, during and after the election. He announced Adeola Atanda as his running mate for the aspired position.
He described his hopeful deputy speaker as a grounded economist who is impeccably versed in the economy and that he contributed positively to the growth of the state’s internally generated revenue.
While appreciating the party, he remarked: “thank you for giving me the platform to contest the July 16th governorship election in the state and as from today, we will start rebuilding the party, until it wins the election.”
“I accepted the candidacy of the party. We will win. You are now going to talk to me as a governor in no distant time and everybody will be involved in the scheme of things.”
He, however, warned the ruling party in the state not to contemplate rigging the election because people would be fully on the ground to monitor their votes.
Yusuf thereafter charged all party members to work towards having an average of 100 and 120 votes in every polling unit in the state and promised not to let them down.
In his speech, the party chairman remarked that “I want to assure you of our preparedness as well as reassure our members that we are determined more than ever to meet the aspirations of the people of Osun State through the choice of our candidate for the governorship election.
“However, I want to use this opportunity to advise all candidates and political parties and leaders to positively play their roles during the period of this election by desisting from making unguided utterances and letting all members and followers know that violence, malpractices, thuggery and all other forms of election vices are not only criminal acts but wicked forces that can distort the success of the 16th July 2022 governorship election in our dear state.
“In addition, the security agencies and their operatives need to play their roles of securing the election professionally.”
