Abuse: Parents urged to preserve child’s right

Parent has been admonished to stop been selfish and factor in availability for their children and preserve their rights not hindered, abuse in different forms.

The admonition was given during a two days capacity building and training workshop on the abuse of minors and vulnerable adults in Oyo and Osun states, Southwest Nigeria, which was organized by Justice, development and peace commission, (JDPC) and was held at St Patrick Catholic church compound, Basorun, Ibadan, Oyo state.

While addressing Journalists at the conference the resource person on child abuse, Dr. Gregory Eigbaidon charged parents to respect the personalities of the minors and guide their children as part of their responsibilities as a parents to their children.

He further urged parents to understand time apply punishment and to let their children understand reason behind their punishment and to differentiate punishment between abusive words.

National daily news correspondent while speaking with some of the stakeholders at the training and workshop, they noted that parents should understand when they are abusive and discipline and stop been abusive to their children.

The participants at the training are: teachers, Parents, professionals and Religious scholars.
