Oyo/Osun Customs generates over Eighty Billion within two years

The Oyo/Osun Area command of the Nigeria Custom Service (NSC) has disclosed that the command has generated Seventeen Billion, One hundred and sixty one million, two hundred and five thousand, five hundred and Nineteen Naira and Thirty four Kobo between November 2021 to January 2022 in revenue to the federal government.
The Customs Area Comptroller, Comptroller Adamu Abdulkadir, made this known at the command headquarter on Tuesday while displaying 21,393 bags of rice and other contraband seized by the command.
Abdulkadir said that the revenue generated in the period under review signified 0.16 percent increase when compared to revenue generated in November 2020 to January 2021 that recorded lower revenue.
He asserted that “From November 2021 to January, the command collected duty of N17,161,205,519.34 representing 0.16 percent increase when compared to November 2020 to January 2021, bringing the total duty collected during my dispensation as the Customs Area Controller of Oyo/Osun between November 2020 and January 2022 to N80,378,985,034.59 in revenue to the federal government.
The Comptroller noted that the Comptroller general of Nigeria Custom has mandated the enforcement of government policies in the fight against smuggling of prohibited and restricted items which Oyo /Osun has committed to enforcing the same.
He further appealed for the support of Oyo state governor Engineer Seyi makinde to help in reach out to the state legislatures and chairmen of the local government Areas in the state to help sensitize the Youth, Religious leaders, Traditional leaders, Community leaders, state and non state actors on the need for cordial relationship and cooperation with the personnel of the customs service.
Abdulkadir added that ” Though the command has a healthy relationship with it’s host communities, there are still some unscrupulous elements who try to undermine the will of the service, to avoid a repeat of the ugly incidents of 2021 which resulted in loss of lives and collateral damages, the command sought the support of His Excellency, the Executive governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi makinde to help reah out to the legislators and chairmen of the local government Areas to help sensitize the Youth, Religious leaders, Traditional Rulers, Community leaders, state and non State actors, on the need for cordial relationship and cooperation with the personnel of the customs service.
He further advised Nigerians to desist in patronizing the seller of used, prohibited and restricted items inorder to curb the menace of insecurity, improving the health conditions and saving the local industries.
