AFCON 2021: ‘We don’t want to go home’- Eguavoen Speaks on players, tactics.

Augustine Eguavoen, the Super Eagles’ coach, has stated that the team’s training on Friday and Saturday will determine whether he will employ the same starting XI that beat Egypt and Sudan in their first two group games or some of the players that played against Guinea Bissau.

Eguavoen stated that the Super Eagles will give it their all in their match against Tunisia at Stade Roumde Adjia, adding that they do not want to exit the competition at this point.

Nigeria qualified for the tournament with maximum points after convincingly defeating Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau, but their Sunday opponent Tunisia finished as one of the worst losers.

This is the knockout stage, and you must use every strategy available to win. If you don’t succeed, you’ll be sent home. We are not yet ready to return home, so we must win,” Eguavoen told The Guardian.

Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in 2006, said the players are fully aware of the difficult nature of the challenge ahead.

“From the players to the technical staff, we are prepared for the job against Tunisia. We’re all aware that opportunities like this don’t come along very often. You take it when you have it. “In this tournament, that is our gospel,” he remarked.
