Oyo Government Confirms Cholera Outbreak in 3 Local Government, Put Health Officers on Red Alert.

Oyo state government, on Friday, confirmed cases of cholera outbreak in three local government areas of the state.

The confirmed cases recorded in Kisi, the headquarters of Irepo Local Government Area, Destitute center in Akinyele Local Government, and a remote area in Ido local government were said to be under control.

Addressing Journalists on the containment of the disease in Oyo state, the permanent secretary, state ministry of health, Dr. Ayoola Adebisi, said the disease surveillance and notification officers in all the 33 local government areas of the state have been put on alert to institute preventive measures against the outbreak of Cholera in the pacesetter state.

Dr. Ayoola, who assured the populace of effective preparedness for the prevention of cholera outbreaks, hinted that health professionals in public and private hospitals have been charged to promptly respond to outbreaks of cholera in the event of any occurrence.

At the briefing, the Oyo state government, through the state ministry of health, advised that suspected individuals with the disease should be referred to the nearest government hospitals for free and quality care.

“The disease surveillance and notification officers in all the 33 LGAs of the state and have put on alert to institute preventive measures, and sensitization of health professionals in public and private hospitals to promptly respond to outbreak of Cholera in the event of any occurrence”.

” The state hereby reassure the populace of effective preparedness to properly dispose of their faeces and refuse and improve on their personal hygiene”.

He advised the people of the state that ” Suspected individuals are to be referred to the nearest government hospitals for free and quality care”.

Dr. Ayoola further commented on the present situation of COVID-19 in the state, He affirmed that there are only 20 cases of COVID-19 patients currently in the state, in which they admitted at the Olodo Isolation center in which is under control.

He appreciated governor Seyi Makinde for his proactiveness on all health related issues for and curtailing the health issues in the state.

Dr. Ayoola further explained the reason Agbami Isolation centre was closed is because there are limited cases of COVID-19 in the state.

“If there are no more cases, there is no need to admit the COVID-19 patient, reasons the Agbami Isolation centre was closed down is because there is no new cases on ground in the state”.

“where there is cases, they are all admitted at the center but there are no new cases, hence we have to close some of this facilities.

“As our present only Infectious Disease Centre, Olodo Isolation center that is functioning and currently, we have 20 cases of COVID-19 that are in Olodo Isolation center, that means the present admission are doing fantastic in curtailing the spread of the pandemic”.

“We appreciate governor Seyi Makinde for the proactiveness measure he has been taken as far as COVID-19 is concern and all other health issues concerning the state”.
