*“ I remain in PDP but will not Run for a Second Term as PDP Lagos State Chairman”- Doherty *

The Substantive State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State , Engr Adedeji Doherty has said he would not be re-contesting for the position of state Chairman in the forthcoming State Congress scheduled for September 2021.


He made this known while chatting with Journalists at his Ikeja Office.

Engr Doherty said “My Experience as State Chairman over the years has been eventful and has been one that has taught me more about life, especially as it relates to my relationship with God”


He stated that, he his staying out of the race as a sacrifice he had to make in order to create the emergence of a new team of administrators who he believes should ultimately bring a semblance of peace and unity to the party.


He seized the opportunity to thank God for having spared his life during his tenure as the State Chairman.
While reminiscing, he considered the numerous crises periods and most of all, the sudden deaths of important personalities within the party.


He prayed for the repose of the souls of all those who lost their lives at different points, particularly to different illnesses, and especially the Covid-19 virus.
He further prayed that their gentle souls would continue to rest In perfect peace.

You would recall that, Engr Adedeji Doherty’s political career has been fulfilling in the only party he has known.
He was once the Southwest Zonal Financial Secretary, the Organising Secretary and later Acting Vice Chairman of the Southwest zone, before becoming the State Chairman in November 2019.
Engr Doherty expressed his very sincere appreciation to all loyal executive colleagues, the Local Government Chairmen’s Forum and various leaders and party members at the respective levels of the party structure for their support, tolerance and for the patience exhibited during his tenure.

Engr Doherty then adviced the major stakeholders of the party in Lagos State to close ranks, show more love to the teaming members and most importantly, believe in themselves as it concerns resolving internal disagreements, rather than expecting party conflicts to be settled by leaders from other states .

The State Chairman said “it is really embarrassing as leaders and elders of the party in Lagos State that we cant seem to resolve our differences internally and amicably without the intervention of external bodies, who had to come into Lagos to meet with major stakeholders. This he said “shouldn’t have occurred at all if we as leaders had put the party first before considering our personal interest.”
He however called on the National Body of the Party to lead by example by taking decisive Disciplinary action on erring members across the Nation as stipulated in the party’s constitution.
He reiterated that though the action, could have a short term set back but it would definitely have long term positive effects on the psychic of our members.
The state Chairman finally seized the opportunity to apologize to all those he might have offended in the course of execution of his duties as Chairman, he consequently advised that all and sundry should extend the olive branch, ensue love, embrace forgiveness and togetherness as members of one great indivisible political family!
He once again wished all contestants goodluck as they vie for various positions.
