FCC BOSS Charges UCH Management on Equitable Distribution of Positions

The Executive Chairman, Federal Character Commission, Dr Muheeba Dankaka, on Tuesday charged the management of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan in Oyo State, to always adhere to the principles of proportional sharing of positions.

Dankaka gave the directive on Tuesday when she led a delegation of the commission on a courtesy visit to the hospital management in Ibadan.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the FCC chairman and its Secretary, Alhaji Tukur Bello, were on a working visit to the commission’s office in the state.

The three Commissioners of the commission, representing Oyo, Ogun and Abia, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, Mr Abiodun Akinlade and Mr Henry Ogbulogo respectively, were on the entourage.

Dankaka told the Chief Medical Director of UCH, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, that FCC was established to ensure equitable distribution of positions and resources in the country.

According to her, the commission is to promote, monitor and enforce compliance with the principles of proportional sharing of all bureaucratic, economic and political posts at all levels of government.

“It is, also to ensure the provision of infastructure facilities and socioeconomic amenities,” she said.

The commission’s executive chairman also told the hospital’s management to follow all the extant provisions of the commission, as it affect the institution’s operations.

She urged them to be more proactive and engage with the commission always.

According to her, UCH management should not wait till questions are asked before forwarding the college’s recruitment details to the commission.

Dankaka noted that currently, there was an alarming rate of exit of the already scarce professionals.

“This calls for constant recruitment, and it doesn’t exclude UCH; so, always update FCC on your manpower requirements,” she said.

The executive chairman described UCH as the flagship of quality healthcare practice for decades, and had been a reference hospital in Nigeria and beyond.

Dankaka however, commended the hospital management for its roles in helping humanity, especially in the containment of COVID-19 pandemic.

In his remarks, Otegbayo said that the commission had lived up to its tenets over the years, assuring the commission’s team that UCH would continue to subscribe to its principles and guidance.

According to him, the college knows and recognises the position and what the commission stands for.

NAN reports that the FCC delegation also visited the palace of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Soliu Adetunji.

The commission’s chairman told the traditional ruler that Ibadan and Oyo State in general, had not been sidelined in the distribution of public posts, socioeconomic amenities and infastructure facilities at the national level.

She assured the royal father that the commission would continue to give the state its fair share at the federal level.

Responding, Oba Adetunji thanked the FCC team for the visit, promising to continue to support its activities toward equitable distribution of positions and resources in the country.

Earlier, Dankaka had interactive session with the staff of the commission in Oyo State at the FCC Office, Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba.

At the meeting, the FCC State Coordinator, Mr Muyiwa Babanumi, appreciated the chairman’s visit, urging the commission’s management to do more in the area of welfare for its members of staff.

The chairman and the commissioner representing Oyo state, Olowofela, charged the staff to be dedicated to duty.

Dankaka assured the staff that she would prioritise their welfare.
